Vote Today, Deadline's tomorrow! Help us work with more communities

The KWoA Pride of Place intergenerational project encourages older people to get to know their younger neighbours better through sharing stories, memories and interests across the generations.

Our Pride of Place project is one of five shortlisted projects for The People's Projects in the Border TV region. The three projects with the most votes in each ITV region will be offered funding of up to £50,000.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to potentially support so many more children, more young families, and more older people in more communities in South Lakeland as they meet older and younger neighbours in their communities, getting to know each other better through sharing stories and interests. It’s important that our local older people are valued and are at the centre of their communities, inspiring the younger generations.

Please help us by voting before tomorrow's deadline, midday Sunday March 13th.

VOTE Pride of Place

The children at Milnthorpe Primary School know all about how KWoA intergenerational projects encourage older people to get to know their younger neighbours better. They know it's important that older people are at the centre of their communities inspiring children with their fascinating stories. (see earlier blog posts for some of the older people's stories that have inspired Milnthorpe children)

They also know how to vote for the KWoA Pride of Place project on The People's Project website.

' It's not Pride of Place, ' Milnthorpe Primary School children told us today, ' it's VOTE Pride of Place !'

Inspiration from Milnthorpe Primary School

Last year, KWoA ran intergenerational activities with the Milnthorpe community which including children at Milnthorpe Primary School working with local older people and KWoA artist Emma Aylett to create this amazing animation.

The children would really like to encourage other communities to create their own intergenerational work in the new Pride of Place project. Please take a moment to watch their animation and be inspired...

(If you have any difficulties viewing the animation below within this blog page, just follow this link to the Yr 5 Gallery page on Milnthorpe School's website for the Pride of Place Animation

'My Day as a TV Star' Assembly at Stramongate Primary School

Yesterday, there was a very exciting assembly at Stramongate Primary School!

Dougan, Eloise and Edward stood up in front of everyone and spoke about 'My Day as a TV star' when they were filmed by Border TV as part of the KWoA Pride of Place project which has been shortlisted in The People's Project.

"We went to Milnthorpe Primary School to find our all about life at school years ago! We went with Mrs Brayshaw, a lady who works in our school, and we met a man called Tom (he was 92). He told us all about his school days. For example, he had to walk 3.2 miles on his own, every day, just to get to school - sometimes he didn't have shoes. We also learnt that they had very strict teachers who used a cane for punishment, and you would have to wear a Dunce's cap for misbehaving (thankfully it isn't like that now!).

The most surprising part of the day was finding out that they had no computers, no carpet and no interactive board - everything was done using a blackboard. We really enjoyed meeting new people and being on video. They told us to keep the day secret - we didn't even tell our parents! Now we can spread all the information we learnt from others and can't wait to watch it on TV. "
